Free Support Groups & Practical Help

You will find a wide variety of free supportive programming at the Susi Q. Groups and services
may be offered every week, every month, or seasonally. Some may have waiting lists.
Some are only on Zoom, only in-person, or both. They all have one shared goal:
To help you meet the challenges that can come with time.

ALZHEIMER'S SUPPORT GROUP

1st & 3rd Wednesday of the Month
1:30 pm – 3:00 pm | Zoom Only
Facilitated by Ruth Prias, trained ALZOC Volunteer

Are you caregiving for someone with Alzheimer’s or other dementias? This bi-monthly Zoom group connects you with others who know how challenging this is. They exchange practical information, talk through issues and ways of coping, share feelings and concerns, and learn about community resources. CHRONIC ILLNESS SUPPORT GROUP

If you are living with a chronic illness, you can find comfort and wisdom in the company of others in similar situations. This group is open to anyone 50+ who is touched by any type of chronic illness including Parkinson’s, cancer, kidney disease, COPD, heart disease, MS, arthritis, diabetes, respiratory disease, HIV, hepatitis, etc.

DEATH CAFE

Death Café is a not a support group but a relaxed, friendly discussion of our thoughts and feelings about our shared mortality. Join the founder of the HeartWay: Embracing Life, Honoring Death for an inspiring conversation.

HEART TO HEART CO-ED SUPPORT GROUP

Connections from the heart matter! This popular co-ed support group is limited to 10 participants. They share practical information and coping tips, give and receive emotional support, and often start new friendships.

MEN'S 50+ SUPPORT GROUP

Our Men’s Group is active again.  If you are looking for good company that shares life experiences and discusses healthy ways to navigate life’s challenges, this group is well worth attending.

WOMEN SUPPORTING WOMEN

At every stage of a woman’s life, social connections are essential to well-being. Aging comes with its challenges and changes, but loneliness should never be one of them. Are you having more “alone time” than is good for you? Then this is just the place for you. Note: There is currently a waiting list.

FREE HEARING SCREENINGS

3rd Thursday of the month
12:00 pm – 3:30 pm by appt | In-person

These half-hour screenings include basic servicing of your devices, replacing batteries, and answers to your questions Test results are confidential. Note: In-person tests observe current risk-reduction guidelines. Masks may be required.

The California Department of Aging’s Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program is here to answer your questions. HICAP counselors are trained in Medi-Cal and Medicare and can help you find the options that are best for you.

LEGAL CLINIC

2nd Monday of the month
9:00 am – 2:30 pm  |  In-person and by appt only.

These 30-minute in-person consultations provide 55+ seniors with legal advice, and referrals. Seaside Legal Services will work with you on issues that include Social Security, contracts, housing, wills, and more. Consultations are not available by phone.

GRIEF AND LOSS SERIES

This series brings together people who are experiencing grief and loss. Grief is experienced in many ways — physically, emotionally, and spiritually —  and every loss is unique. Yet participants find that sharing their thoughts and feelings with others who understand them is both comforting and healing.
